TrendLine Saskatchewan - March 2023

Strong employment growth expected to continue throughout 2023

February 2023 saw employment increasing again over February 2022 and unemployment dropping, maintaining much of the same trends observed in 2022. Most other indicators are ending 2022 in positive territory, led by manufacturing sales, wholesale trade, international exports, and retail trade.

In other positive news, Saskatchewan finally saw some positive news in new vehicle sales and housing starts surged on the strength of multiple units.

Stubbornly high inflation (6%), a consequent rise in interest rates, average weekly wage increases below the rate of inflation, declining building permits, and increases in those of labour force age not in the labour force have the potential to dampen future growth.
